How To Clean Gas Stove Burners

A daily-use thing like the gas stove burner needs cleaning from time to time. Keeping it clean will not only give you freshness while cooking, it will also keep insects and cockroaches away. So all you have to do is give a little attention to this section too which is a gateway to healthy food.

Firstly, turn off the pilot light on the gas stove (Most stoves have a switch that enables you to shut down the pilot.) Blowing out the flame will be required if the stove is old. Ensure all burners are shut off before turning off the pilot. Read the instruction manual if you are circumspect about how to turn the pilot off.

Before starting with the cleaning process, allow the burner to cool for about 20 minutes. Some stoves have small flames that remain lit even when the burner hasn't been ignited, thus causing the burner and grates to become warm to the touch.

If the burner and/or grates are still warm use a potholder. Remove the drip pans and grates from the burner. In a sink full of hot water add half a cup of baking soda and a quarter cup of ammonia.

Put the drip pans and grate in the baking soda and ammonia solution and allow them to soak for about an hour. While they are soaking, clean the burners on the stove. Soak a sponge in the ammonia and baking soda solution. Squeeze it to rinse and scrub the indentation of each burner on the top of the gas stove. Keep on repeating the process as needed. Wipe any spills from the top of each flame element gently.

Use steel wool pad to scrub stains and build up from the drip pans and burner grates. Rinse and dry them. Dry the burner indentations on the stove top, and replace the drip pans and grates and you are done.
