A clean fireplace exterior will offer better inspiration for decorating or changing the fire place decoration. So the first step should be cleaning the fireplace exterior as fireplaces generally have sooty exteriors.

You can use tiles or simply paint the fireplaces depending upon your wish. If you have a red brick fireplace you can easily paint it to white or black. Stone fireplace does not require any paint and should be left as it is.

If you have a wood-paneled fireplace you can either use paint or tile the fireplace depending upon your wish.

If you have a permanent border or surround use tiny grass or clay tiles to cover them. This is an inexpensive way of doing redecoration which is quite stylish also,

A temporary surround can be easily screwed up, painted and then replaced to the fireplace when it dries. The choice of the color is entirely dependent on your wish.

Use some large item to hang in front of the fireplace. The large hanging items such as mirrors, black-and-white photograph etc add meaning to your décor.

Lastly decorate the fireside. Position fireplace tools on the fireside in a wicker basket full of kindling. Another option can be decorating with a vase on the fireside to give it a more formal and official look.
