How To Keep Your Energy Bill Under Control In Winters

Winter is approaching which directly affects the monthly energy bill drastically. Recession might be at its verge, still you have to manage your finances efficiently. It is not feasible to spend lavishly on energy throughout winters to keep your family warm. Heat pumps, blowers and room warmers no matter how efficient they are, takes enormous amount of energy and electricity to keep running which in turn adds up to your energy bills. You can't do much about it because you have to keep your home warm to protect your family against extreme cold weather.

In this article I will explain how you can keep the energy within your budget this winter. Please leave me a comment and share your experiences of cutting energy costs in winters.

1
Doors and windows let the warm air passes through which do not help in keeping the warmth. Maintaining room temperature is essential which you can easily achieve via putting heavy curtains and window coverings. These curtains and window coverings don’t let the warm air slip to outside easily which in turn keep the room warm. You can have two curtains one to help maintaining temperature and another over thick curtain to add glamour and style. These heavy curtains also helps in keeping room cooler in dry summer season too so choose wisely and invest carefully.
2
Window draft snakes and door draft snakes helps in maintaining the room temperature. You can purchase these draft snakes easily from your hardware vendor and get them professionally installed.
3
Regular check and maintenance is required for furnaces and boilers which can give better results if tuned properly. A furnace which runs on gas can serve well for more than a year (depending upon the model and make). Always ask your vendor what precautions you should take to keep them running for long duration.
4
Roam around your home and find out any drafts or openings which might let the warm air slip out. You can get the proper weather stripping done by a professional. If the drafts are small and easily accessible you can do it by yourself.
5
Fireplace chimney opens straight to the roof which is one of the primary sources of draft leading hot and warm air to outside. It would be wise to cover the fireplace when you are not using it.
6
Tune your thermostat to 68F and lower if possible which will surely consume less power hence cause less pounding on your energy bill.
7
At night you can close all the unused rooms and use heat vent open for bedroom only.
