How To Keep Your Roses Fresh

A rose is considered to be the most beautiful flower. It is adored for its beauty as well as it's fragrance. Gardeners who have beautiful rose gardens sometimes struggle a lot to take care of and maintain their gardens. If you want healthy rose plants, then you will have to take efforts and be ready to give a good amount of time everyday. But you will be very happy to see the roses blooming in your garden and feel that the efforts were worth it. Caring for rose plants include regular watering, pruning and constant protection from changing weather and diseases. Here are some guidelines that can help you.

Rose is a plant that needs lots of watering. To encourage the growth of your new rose plants, you need to water them to keep the soil moist for most of the day. Slow and steady watering throughout the day is necessary. If you do not have time to keep watering your plants for the whole day, you can set up a small sprikling system to ease your work.

Pruning is another important activity while taking care of your roses. It is beneficial for roses because it promotes good air circulation, protects it from diseases and encourages its growth.

Pruning is done best during the rose's dormant season, usually in spring when the new leaf buds start to sprout from the stem. The dead branches and the branches that rub off together need to be cut off as well. Pruning should also be done during the rose's growing period.

The winter season is not suitable for roses. Rose plants must be protected in winter season. A common method to protect the plant is to bury it in the soil and mulch it for most of the season especially if its very cold.

Dig a trench as tall as the rose plant and tip it down. You can put a mesh ring or a rose collar around it and then cover it with a mound of soil. Cover it further with a mound of organic mulch to protect it from freezing. Remove all the cover completely once the freezing is over.

Constant care is necessary to protect the rose plant from diseases. To protect them from diseases, you should prune your plants regularly. Remove all dead buds and dead leaves. Also remove the dead stems that can become breeding areas for spores and insects.

Also keep on cultivating the soil regularly so that the spores and insects breeding there will be killed when exposed to sunlight. Take care that the weeds don't grow near your rose plant.

There are many pesticides available in the market to protect your roses from diseases. Take advantage of them. A good spray of water mixed with baking soda and a little corn oil can also help in keeping the diseases away. If this spray is used regularly, it can prevent diseases like black spots infecting your plant.

If you see a portion of your plant being infected, immediately cut it off so that it doesn't spread to other parts. Thus by taking proper care, you can get a healthy and thriving rose plant.
