How To Make Christmas Stockings

Christmas stockings are very easy to make at home and can be used as a holiday craft project for kids. Traditionally, Christmas stockings are a hit with children who put it out on Christmas eve near the fire place so that Santa Claus can fill it with candies and other treats for them when they go to bed. It does not take a lot of time to make one, and it is much more fun this way instead of buying it from the market. So go ahead, follow the instructions below and decorate your living room with stockings for the Santa!

Take a red cloth of any material. You can use fabrics that are easily available like fleece, silk or velvet. The size of the cloth should be equal to the length of the stocking you intend to make.

Trace the shape of the Christmas stocking either by your own imagination or by using an old stocking. Trace the same shape on a piece of lining cloth. Now cut the stocking out of the fabric and make the curves even.

Stitch the cloth from all sides except the top part which should be kept open. Use thread of the same color as the cloth. Keep the lining cloth inside the stocking.

You can have the cuffs of white furs or velvet to adorn your stockings. Measure the thickness you want to devote to the cuff border and cut out the border in a thick horizontal strip.

After you have stitched the body, attach the cuffs. Make tiny loops by piercing holes if you want a ribbon to decorate the cuffs.

You can also attach bells and other such decorations to the cuffs to give it a distinct look.

If there are more than two kids in your house, then you can give different decorations to the stockings to identify which one belongs to whom. Alternatively, attach a small name card to the stocking as a part of the decorations and write the kid’s name on it.

The same stocking can be made with paper in the same manner. Instead of sewing you will have to glue the pieces together. No need to fret about finding red paper specifically for this. You can make it with normal white or brown paper and then color it red with water colors.
