How To Mend Cracks Of Your Concrete Floor

If you own a old home then you must have noted little cracks on the concrete floor. They look pretty odd and can ruin your reputation in front of your guests. One solution is to get the whole floor reconstructed again or look for professional help to get the concrete floor revamped. Professional’s may charge anywhere up to $400 - $1000 depending upon the floor surface. You can easily save this amount of money but doing little bit of hard work by your own.

Repairing a concrete floor by your own won’t take much of a tussle but require a day’s hard work. You need to spend a decent amount of time in order to repair the cracks of the concrete floor. In this guide I am going to give few tips on how to mend the cracks of your concrete floor. Please leave me a comment and share your experiences of mending floor cracks with us.

Before you indulge yourself in a task, just wear safety glasses because there are chances that splinters and other dust material may fly into your eyes.

It is better to make the cracks even bigger so that you can apply concrete stuff to fill the gap effectively. Just keep your hammer, chisel and tool box along with it.

Now, gently cut the sides of the cracks with the help of chisel and hammer, this step helps you in widening the cracks. Just make the cracks wide enough (don’t make it too wide) to put envision packing mortar into the crack.

Clean the cracks with a broom or hand brush to remove all the dirt, dust and other fragments. Ensure that the cracks are properly clean otherwise the packing mortar won’t settle into the cracks.

Now, with the help of a paint brush apply PVA adhesive into the cracks. This will help in settling mortar stick better with the crack.

Read the manual that is on the back of the mix or mortar stick before applying. Just follow the appropriate directions for a proper finish.

Once you have applied the mortar stick ensure the proper leveling with the help of a trowel. Make sure that the edges of the remaining floor levels up properly with the newly filled cracks.

Do not step on the cracks until the material gets harder. Just wash the floor after the floor is dry and the material is harder.

If you have a colored floor, you can purchase the same color and mix the color along with the mortar stick before applying on the cracks.
