How To Remove A Wallapaper From The Wall

Thinking of renovating your house and wondering how to get rid of the aging wallpaper? Follow these steps to get proper results. It would be advisable to protect yourself also while doing all this. Wear full sleeves shirts and trousers and use hand gloves while scoring and scrapping the wallpaper. It would be a good idea to open all the windows before you go ahead with this entire process.

 
You wouldn't want the rest of the furniture to be damaged, so first of all, clear the room of everything. You can also cover the floor with a cloth, but that is up to you. If the wallpaper is heavy and thick then there shouldn't be any problem in removing it — just try to pull it off manually. If it pulls off easily then the work is half done. No reason to panic if it leaves the backing, as that can easily be removed.
 
If the wallpaper is a thin one then you can try using a razor to remove it. It is possible that the wallpaper will come out in bits and pieces. It will serve the purpose anyway if you are too fond of the wallpaper and want to keep it.
 
An alternative to the use of razors on thin wallpapers is a Wallpaper Scoring tool. Use it in the first place if you know pulling it off manually is not going to help. A Wallpaper Scoring tool is a device which creates tiny holes in the wallpapers. Don't worry, it does not damage the wall.
 
Roll the Wallpaper Scoring tool over the wallpaper. More scoring (or tiny holes) in your wallpaper translates into better chances of it soaking up the water or wallpapers removing gel that you will put on it. Maximum scores on your wall will allow maximum penetration.
 
After scoring, the task at hand will be to loosen the Wallpaper adhesive. There are various ways in which it can be achieved. The easiest will be to spray some water on the surface. After 10 minutes try peeling off the wallpaper. Use of water steamers will speed up this process. Adding a mild detergent to the water also helps.
 
For quicker and better results, you can use the Piranha or Diff Wallpaper Remover gel to fully saturate the wallpaper pores. Wait for 15-20 minutes to allow the solution or gel to penetrate the area.
 
Remove the wallpaper using a wall-scraper. Remove the adhesive or wallpaper backing simultaneously. Keep spraying the area if it drys out quickly. Make sure you don't scrap the plaster of the wall though!
 
After the wallpaper and wallpaper backing is removed, clean the wall with fresh water. Make sure the excess glue sticking to the wall are wiped out. Again take special care of the plaster of the wall and avoid the water from damaging it.
 
Another way in which the results of the previous step can be achieved is by the use of sandpaper. Allow the wall the dry after you have removed the wallpaper backing and then use a coarse sandpaper to remove all the remains and the wallpapers backing.
