Replacing Maytag Dryer Timer By Yourself

If you know the Maytag model number and can take a bit of pain you can replace the faulty Maytag dryer timer by yourself. All you have to do is purchase the timer of same model then remove the control panel’s console and replace quickly. So you have decided to replace the dryer timer by yourself. Just disconnect the power supply before indulging into replacing act. Do not replace the timer when your machine is in power on mode.

Unscrew the dryer cabinet or top panel by following the owner’s manual.

All the corners of the console should be pulled properly by using a putty knife; these corners will be pulled up to the locking tabs release. If you model has screws to lock the panel then you need to unscrew the panel and remove the console.

In order to remove the screws attached to the console just turn the console to its back and the face towards the floor.

Using your hands just get the knob removed from the timer. You will lot of wires attached to connectors and remember the sequence which needs to be used to reinstall. Do it gently and don’t pull the wires forcefully as that may break the wires or circuit.

You will see few screws (usually two) attached at the back of the timer’s bracket. Unscrew these screws and get the control console removed from the timer. Use you newly purchased timer and attach it there and get the screws bolted firmly.

Now by simply pushing connect the timer wires to the connector and console.

Push the timer knob on the new timer at the front of the control console. You need to use the six screws you have unscrewed to attach the control console back.

It's time to install console back to your dryer by flipping the console back to its place. You need to set the corners properly so that it sticks back to the locking tabs.

Turn the power on and test your new dryer timer. It must be working well!
