Safety Tips For Using LPG At Home

LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) is highly flammable and can’t be seen with naked eye which makes it quite dangerous. A slight negligence can lead to a big explosion and massive injury. The best way to ensure safety is to do a regular checkup and detect even a minor leakage. In this article I have elaborated a few tips for using LPG at home which will also ensure safety and security for you and your family. Please leave a comment and let us know which precautions do you take to ensure safety for using LPG at home.

Always ensure that the pipes are not damaged. Keep on checking the pipes for any kind of visible damage. If you see any cracks or pipe leakage, immediately replace the pipe.

Keep a regular check on the valves of the gas connection and make sure they are tightened and properly fixed.

LPG does not have an odor of its own, hence the chemical methyl mercaptan is added to detect any kind of leakage. Do not ignore a slight odor and pay proper attention to it.

For checking any kind of leakage in pipes and valves, take soapy water and run it all over the valves and pipes of the gas. Look carefully for any bubbles. This bubble shows leakage in the pipe.

In case you are unable to check leakage, it is advisable to call an inspector or an expert to check leaks.

Be very careful dealing with the flammable gas. In case of slight leakage immediately open the door and windows of your home. Do not touch electric switches or lighten the matchstick/lighter etc.

If you are not confident with checking for leaks yourself, it's always smart to play it safe when you're dealing with flammable gas.
