Tips To Grow A Healthy Rose Garden

Rose is considered to be the most beautiful flower amongst all. It is the flower which every person wishes to have in his/her garden. The wonderful thing about roses is that they are not only very beautiful but that just about anyone can grow them. You just need to follow some basic rose gardening tips to have a happy, healthy and blooming rose plant. To ensure a healthy rose plant, a regularly maintained schedule of pruning , feeding, fertilizing, watering and pesticide treatment is necessary. Here are some guidelines that will help you to take proper care of your rose plants.

 
If you want to make a flower-bed only for roses, prepare the soil by digging a spade deep, and remove all weeds. The bed should be little higher from the surrounding ground, so that it should not be water-logged. The soil should be a mixture of grounded clay soil, leaf mould and grounded half-burnt clay.
 
You should choose roses which are suited to your climate zone and the specific soil type. New plants can only survive if they are planted on firm and well-prepared soil. Your roses can be planted on the flowerbed created as in above mentioned step.
 
Make sure your garden gets plenty of sunlight daily. Watch the area where you hope to plant the rose, to see what kind of sunlight it gets. Morning sunlight is best because it keeps moisture from sitting on the leaves and potentially causing problems with mildew or disease. Roses should receive sunlight six hours a day.
 
Feeding roses on a regular schedule promotes a healthy plant. You can use homemade or store-bought fertilizers. Your fertilizer should have a lot of nitrogen early in the season and lot of phosphorous late in the season. Feed roses every two or three weeks or as needed.
 
Water roses frequently, but make sure that you don't water them heavily. Too much water at a time can cause the roots to rot and leaves to mold. Sprinkle your garden lightly at least once a day. Do not use high water pressure when watering your roses or you will wash away all the soil and valuable nutrients.
 
Prune the rose plants. Pruning helps a plant to focus its energy on the healthiest parts. The rose plants should be pruned during the fall when the plant is dormant and again in the spring. Remove dead and diseased stems and trim the plant so that there are several main shoots. Trim away excess leaves and small shoots between the main stems to allow good ventilation and air circulation. Pruning away excess leaves and stems allows all of the nutrients to feed the main stems. Pruning gives you bigger flowers and lusher greenery.
 
Spray the plants with quality pesticides to maintain and prevent insects, insect larvae, eggs and fungal diseases from attacking the rose plants. Plants are susceptible to disease during high humidity and damp conditions due to heavy rain.
 
Roses need a lot of room to grow, this will make them thick and healthy. By taking all the necessary steps that are mentioned above, you can have a healthy and beautiful rose garden.
